‘Community-acquired’ or ‘farm animal’ MRSA has a grim track record. Commonly causing skin infections, this strain of bacteria can also cause pneumonia, bone infections and endocarditis. And in the Netherlands it is spreading. ‘What we have seen here in our region is a rise of MRSA-positive patients, from an average of 40 or 50 MRSA-positive patients in this entire region in a year to last year 224, and about 60 per cent of those are animal-related MRSA,’ says Mireille Wulf, a microbiologist based in Eindhoven.

"There are many people who have gone without vaccination and returned to India. We didn't have the vaccine and they travelled without it.When they came back they were quarantined in the airport hospital for checking any symptoms. We have just released two people after keeping them here for seven days," said an official at the airport hospital.
Another traveller, Srinath Singh, cancelled his visit to Africa because he didn't want to be quarantined at the hospital after his trip.
"They told me if I don't get the vaccination done they will keep me in the hospital for seven days. I preferred to cancel trip," he said.
Yellow fever is a viral disease, found in tropical regions of Africa and the Americas.
It mainly affects humans and monkeys, and is transmitted by the bite of Aedes mosquitoes.
