From haunting seascapes to craggy moors and emerald hills; the Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards show Britain at its best

The varied landscapes of the United Kingdom are breathtakingly beautiful. From the moors and mountains of bonny Scotland to quaint English villages and towering cityscapes, there is a photo opportunity almost everywhere you look. The diversity and beauty of the UK is on display once again through the eyes and lenses of professional and amature landscape photographers young and old, who contributed to the 2011 Landscape Photographer of the Year collection.

Set up by one of the UK’s most famous landscape photographers, Charlie Waite, in 2007 to ‘provide an on-going platform for capturing images that best symbolise our land and our times,’ the prestigious awards have attracted much artistic and media attention. The awards aim to highlight the positive contribution of the connection between people and landscape offing a stunning collection of high quality photos created by the winners and runners-up in the four main categories over two classes; adult and junior. It will have you marvelling at the richly diverse, splendid and surprising scenes of the UK for hours. Budding photographers, take note: the book is a lesson in composition, texture and colour. 

Over 100 photographs will be on display in a free exhibition at The National Theatre from 5th December 2011 to 28th January 2012. Charlie Waite will also be on hand to give exclusive talks at the National Theatre Bookshop from 7.45pm on the 13th and 14th of December 2011 and the 23rd and 24th of January 2012.
