Four years in the making, the completely revised and updated 13th edition of The Times Comprehensive Atlas of the World will be published on Thursday 15 September.
At a time of great environmental and political change, this 13th edition reflects the important issues dominating the world headlines. With up-to-date reference maps and satellite imagery, plus the latest geographical and geopolitical changes, the atlas offers exceptional detail on the world’s physical features, states and territories, environmental and economic issues, place name changes, population, migration and the global impact of recession.
Presented and protected in a stylish slipcase, the first 5,000 copies of the atlas are offered as a ‘signature edition’, with a wall-mountable 1922 vintage world map and an elegant bookmark, making this a treasured possession for the home or the ultimate gift.
New features in this edition include:
• The new country of South Sudan
• 7,000 place name changes, most notably in the Russian Federation, China, Kazakhstan, Iran and Afghanistan
• 37 city plans added for major cities around the world
• Flags for every country of the world, plus the year of independence where relevant
• New satellite images of Antarctica
• Updated national parks and conserved areas
• 100 more abandoned settlements now identified
• 25,000 mapping updates
The first-ever Times World Atlas was published in 1895 during the reign of Queen Victoria. Later editions have reflected the great social and political changes brought about by two World Wars, population explosions and natural disasters, alongside many technical advances in the way the information is recorded.
