Most people know that heart disease, cancer and stroke are our leading causes of death in the West. But many people would be surprised by the next biggest killer: side effects of prescription medicines. Adverse drug reactions hospitalise a million people a year in Britain and kill over 10,000, costing the NHS £2 billion per year.
Safer Medicines Campaign believes that new technologies based on human biology offer more accurate and reliable methods to establish safety than the animal tests currently required by the government. Through the Safety of Medicines Bill and Early Day Motions in parliament, we are urging the government to assess the new approaches, as a means to reduce the tragic toll of adverse drug reactions.
Sacred Cows and Golden Geese is an inspiring introduction to these subjects. Recommended retail price is £24.99
