Reporting from a world of extremes and the theatre of climate change, The Arctic: Treasure of the North presents a never before seen portrait of the Arctic circle. For the first time, acclaimed photographer Bernd Römmelt brings together all the countries of the Arctic region in a single volume. Exploring cold zones of eight different countries in all seasons, Römmelt leaves no snowdrift unturned in a quest to capture the breathtaking landscapes of this delicate region. Throughout the book, Römmelt’s images are framed by invaluable insights from Greenpeace scientist and campaigner Dr. Thomas Henningsen. As leader of the International Arctic campaign, Henningsen discusses the importance of the Arctic as a living environment and as one of our planet’s most important climate engines.
This book aims to create a picture of the enchanting world of polar bears and northern lights and the challenging life of the Nordic people, to document the fascination of the Arctic and allow readers to experience the treasures of this landscape. It is also a strong appeal to pause for reflection, and to put an end to this unique region’s destruction.
