Exclusive: Images Show Climate Change Worse than Previously Thought
news
19th January, 2007
Pictures available online for the first time show that the effects of global warming are far worse than previously expeced. The images produced by the Hadley Centre, part of the UK Meteorological Office, show for the first time that the Stern Review's timeline for action is wrong.
Far from having two decades to take action, by 2020, unless dramatic cuts in greenhouse gas emissions have been achieved, parts of the globe will be experiencing temperatures 3°C above pre-industrial levels – the rise that is referred to as the economics of genocide. In the UK by 2020 temperatures may be 1.2C warmer than the 1970's base and 2.5C warmer by 2050. By 2080 it could be as high as 4C warmer. These exclusive images show the necessity of taking action now.
