Much of the UK is being carved up for exploitation by 'extreme energy' companies wanting to undertake shale gas, coal bed methane and underground coal gasification extractions. But, as a new film shows, affected communities are putting up a fight

Britain's green, picturesque land is facing uncertainty after the arrival of fracking and other unconventional energy mechanisms. The spectre of gas wells and drilling sites, articulated trucks, waste lagoons, and other impacts - social and environmental - hangs heavy in parts of Scotland, Wales and England.

But, not prepared to see their landscape altered forever, a new wave of citizen activists is gearing up to fight back, as the new film Fracking Hell? Britain's gas rush (above) reports.

The film forms part of a collaboration between The Ecologist and Link TV's Earth Focus programme, and follows on from the acclaimed documentary Fracking Hell: the untold story, released in 2010. A further film, Fracking Hell? Poland's dash for gas, has been produced as part of the series.
