Advertorial: Bishopston Trading Company
Enjoy a Fairtrade Christmas this winter with a range of seasonal gifts from Bishopston Trading Company, all made from organic Fairtrade cotton.
Bishopston Trading Company has worked in partnership with the village of K.V.Kuppam in South India for 24 years. They exist solely to provide long-term, stable employment to the villagers. Together they produce clothing for women, men, children and babies, as well as non-clothing items such as bags, toys and bed linen.
Why not choose to hang up an organic Fairtrade cotton stocking this Christmas Eve. Or fill a Fair Trade Christmas sack with goodies for your loved one. Decorate your tree with Fair Trade biodegradable garlands and stars, and sit down to your Christmas lunch at a table covered with an organic Fairtrade cotton table-cloth, decorated with hand-appliquéd holly leaves.
From small beginnings, when six people were employed in the tailoring units, Bishopston Trading has grown to provide full-time employment to 150 tailors, cutters and craft workers. Additional employment is generated for 100 local handloom weavers, who weave the 34 tonnes of organic Fairtrade certified cotton Bishopston purchases every year. Through a business model based on partnership and trust, the people of K.V.Kuppam are able to work productively and develop their skills within walking distance of their homes and families.
Christmas is a time for giving. Buying Fairtrade Christmas gifts ensures your purchases make a positive difference to the lives of the skilled farmers and artisans who cultivated the crops and spun, wove and crafted the final product.
Merry Christmas – make it a fair one.
